Danny Briere is on a roll.

In nine games, Briere has scored six goals, including one in Tuesday’s 6-3 victory over his former team, the Buffalo Sabres. Briere also registered his second assist of the season Tuesday, on a goal scored by Jeff Carter in the third period.

He is off to his best start since 2005, when he had nine goals and four assists through 13 games as a Sabre.

That his success has continued against his former team wasn’t lost on him.

“It is always a little special when you play against an old team,” Briere said. “I still have some good friends on the other side, but you try to leave that off the ice. When it is time to work there are no friends out there.”

During the Flyers’ playoff run last spring, Briere had 12 goals and 18 assists, breaking the franchise record for scoring in a playoff year, previously held by Brian Propp (28 points). Briere also had five points in six games of the Stanley Cup Final against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Briere’s line with Ville Leino and Scott Hartnell is the only one that has stayed intact this season, and Briere likes it that way.

“I think a lot of credit goes to our style of play, and having the chance to have continuity with my linemates,” Briere said. “It’s something that we started last year in the playoffs and it kept going this year. Every time we go on the ice, every shift, I have a feeling we’re going to jump out there and we’ll create a chance to score. It’s amazing.”
