Large donations help Warm the Children

By Brenda Maguire

NEW BRITAIN— A month has gone by and the Warm the Children campaign is now more than halfway to its goal of $40,000 with a total of $26,016 in donations, partially thanks to hefty donations from local businesses.

Tomasso Brothers Inc., a real estate development and management company in New Britain, gave a substantial gift of $1,000 to the campaign this year.

Michal Tomasso, president of the Tomasso Group, said his company has been giving to Warm the Children for a number of years.

“I think that there’s hardly a greater call to a community than to the children of the community and we need to do what we can,” he said.

Tomasso Brothers has a history of being involved in other fundraisers, such as clothing drives.

He stressed that giving to a program like Warm the Children can help create “happy endings” for the children who benefit from the campaign.

The Law Offices of John A. Barbieri also chipped in with a donation of $100, which will clothe two children.

Attorney John Barbieri has been involved with Warm the Children since it started eight years ago.

He was formerly a member of the New Britain chapter of UNICO, which had previously been the sponsor of the campaign.

“The children need warm clothing in wintertime and the fact that their parents can’t do that is not their fault,” he said.

Barbieri also likes contributing because he knows it is keeping the children healthy.

Guida’s Milk, a dairy company in New Britain, made a big contribution of $850.

Donations can be submitted, along with the volunteer shopper form, to Warm the Children, 1 Court St., New Britain, CT 06051.
