BRISTOL— The state Department of Public Health continues to list Chippanydale Association, a private water system in Bristol, under a boil water advisory.
The water system, located on Everett Street, serves approximately 50 customers.
“The small systems, if they lose their power and lose water service they’re not able to pump their water and it could be contaminated,” said William Gerrish, spokesman for the DPH.
He said the department does not know how long the boil water advisory will be in affect because test results have not come in yet.
Residents should boil water or use bottled water when cooking, washing fruits and vegetables, brushing teeth or making baby formula.
Infants, toddlers, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems should bathe in water that is boiled first.
It is not necessary for older children and adults to boil the water before bathing.
The DPH suggests that water be brought to a rolling boil for one minute. Residents should also check to make sure there are no floating pieces in the water before it is boiled.
There were still five water systems under an advisory on Monday afternoon. The advisory does not apply to the entire town the water system is located in, but rather the customers of that specific system.
The DPH is monitoring all systems under the advisory and offering assistance as needed.
