NEW BRITAIN — The New Britain Chamber of Commerce, New Britain Herald and Hartford Publications are working together on the New Britain Chamber of Commerce 2012-2013 City Guide and Membership Directory, which is set to come out this fall.
William Millerick, president of the Chamber, wanted to do something different with the biennial book, rather than the standard directory that all Chambers usually issue, he said.
“We wanted to do something more beneficial to the city and make a city guide,” Millerick said.
The City Guide will be a book about New Britain, full of stories and pictures, along with updated information on businesses that are members of the Chamber. It will also include a membership directory, listing the name and contact information for all businesses in the Chamber.
“We look at it as a reference guide and guide to the city through a business perspective,” Mike Schroeder, editor and publisher of the Herald, said. “We’ll cover every area of the city’s life both in advertisements and the editorial content of the book.”
The Herald will help with the coverage of the Polish and Hispanic communities in New Britain and with New Britain sports.
“The Herald is a linchpin of the New Britain business community and it’s a natural fit,” Schroeder said of working on the City Guide.
The City Guide is useful for new and old residents because it shows various aspects of the city, such as its authentic ethnic restaurants, East Side and Great Taste. “I think it’s important for people who don’t know about the city to learn about New Britain,” Millerick said. “It’s also important for people who live in New Britain. I think a lot of people aren’t aware of everything New Britain has to offer.”
The City Guide, which is free, will be available at the Chamber of Commerce, the lobby of the CCSU Institute of Technology and Business Development, the New Britain Public Library, New Britain Industrial Museum, the New Britain Museum of American Art, and local businesses.
